It’s a strange place in WoW, the realm of the lowbies. Just last night I was taking advantage of the Lunar Festival Invitation and used it to transport my baby gnome lock to Darnassus. My intent was to head off to Auberdine and pick up the flight path there, but I got sidetracked in a bad way. I picked up a coin from the elder in Darnassus and remembered there was another elder in Dolanaar. I began making my way there and picked up skinning from the trainer who happens to live just off the road - how handy! Just outside Dolanaar there were a few higher levels, well higher levels for the zone. A Draenei mage and Human priest in their twenties kindly buffed me as I ran past them. I emoted a “Thank you!” as my gnome is a polite and grateful little creature, despite her fascination with fel magic and demons.
I speak to the elder, he gives me a coin and, since the cooking trainer is just a step away, I learned how to cook. I noticed the priest that had previously buffed me was standing next to me. He must be skilling up his cooking as well, I thought. I purchased some flour and spices and cooked up a few loaves of spice bread. The priest was still standing there and he wasn’t cooking or speaking with the trainer. Well, my tiny gnome certainly couldn’t eat all that bread and her imp wouldn’t eat it, so I sold the warm bread to the vendor. Hmmm… maybe the priest was waiting for me to give him some bread? I hadn’t thought of it, so I didn’t bother to ask.
I remember that I had learned how to skin beasties on my way here, but I didn’t have anything to skin them with. I crossed the road to see if any of the vendors might have something that would do the job. And looky loo! The priest must have had the same idea because he’s coming too. I bought a skinning knife, and a mining pick because I would be needing one of those as well. I didn’t see the priest speak with any of the vendors, so I start wondering if this fella is following me. The first aid trainer was in the same building, so I asked her if she’d show me how to make linen bandages. She asked if my friend would like to learn as well, but he didn’t answer. I suggested to her that maybe he didn’t need to know because he had spells for healing. I didn’t tell her he wasn’t my friend and I thought he might be following me, even though it was starting to creep me out.
I figure I could test to see if he’s really there and following me or if he were off in some trance not knowing what he was doing, yet somehow following me. I saw a spider and remembered the cooking trainer asked me to bring him some spider legs. I got in range to cast my spells on it and the spider made a beeline for me. The priest pulls his staff out and starts hitting it. Ok, so he’s not in a trance. It’s time to find out what he’s up to.
“Are you lost?” I ask.
“Somewhat.” he says. Ok, he can speak.
“Why are you following me?” I ask.
He tells me, “Don’t worry about it. Keep leveling.”
You gotta be kidding me.
“I’m sorry, but it’s creepy.” I tell him. And without further ado, I run back to Dolanaar as fast as my little legs can carry me, wave buh bye to Mr. Priest and logout.
Yikes!

Maybe he was leveling his staff skills… ?
Maybe! It sure was a strange encounter.
I was in the same (other side) situation.
Sometime u are just bored and you feel in the mood to help some little level. What kinde of world is this where you can’t be trusted if you just want to help a low lvl :’(
Good point Nicta, but remember that he was silently following me for a good 5-10 minutes before I engaged in combat. Following someone around that long without saying a word is a bit strange.
Plus, I have the feeling he needed more help than I. If I hadn’t been so weirded out I might have had the sense to ask if he needed help finding his way home.
The poor fella! I hope he’s managed to find his way out of Teldrassil by now. =)
