The Son dramatically improved his grades this quarter. He had a few Ds and an F in Chinese. He kicked butt and brought that F up to a B and the Ds are now Cs and Bs. More than anything, we now know he is capable. His first quarter was his very first as a high school freshman. Not only was he adjusting to being a high school student, but he also was playing football. He was exhausted for a good portion of that first quarter.
If he hadn’t improved, we would need to discuss the possibility that he might not have the aptitude to learn Chinese… even after taking it for 3 years. We were ready to accept this. But he came through!
Now, the Daughter, whom we have never worried about, has some work to do. She started a new school this year, and its been a challenge for her, proving to us that we made the right decision to switch schools. She’s in Spanish Immersion, has been since 1st grade (she’s in 7th), and apparently she wasn’t learning grammar at her former school. Oy vey!
