Something about the Ragga wasn’t sitting well with me, but I was determined to brush it off and continue to level her in pursuit of my goal to have both a purple Frostsaber pet and mount.

But I couldn’t shake it.

She had long white hair, which was supposed to match nicely with her purple kitties (they have white stripes!). I liked the idea of viewing her long, flowy white hair as her Frostsaber cat ran alongside her or when she was riding on the Frostsaber mount. But guess what? 95% of all other Night Elves, including males, have either white hair or the long, flowy hair style.

It bothered me.

She had the pale blue/purply skin. Again, to best match her future feline companions. But guess what? So did about 50% of all other female Night Elves.

And to top it off, Mama Druid has the same exact coloring… the white hair and blue/purply skin.

*sigh*

Now you know how much of a dork I am.

Thankfully, the right circumstances came up that allowed me to be ok with deleting level 38 Ragga and creating a new one.

  • Playing with our RL friends helped me refocus my “strategy” and I decided to play a character of each class on each faction… except a Warrior - I just can’t play them! I have three druids on Ragga’s server, so this new strategy made it ok for me to delete one as I’d be playing a balance druid on Horde with the RL friends.
  • The desire to level a survival hunter, something I’ve been wanting to do for some time. A recent post by Mirsh put fuel on that fire… the former Ragga was leveling with beastmastery.
  • Other players do it too!

Say goodbye to the old “I look like everyone else” Ragga,

Old Ragga Waving Good Bye Old Ragga Crying

and hello to the new “I don’t look like everyone else” Ragga! Doesn’t she look more hunterly?

New Ragga

Upon creation, and with 5g from a wealthy Aunt and a few stacks of copper ore from her predecessor, I ran the new Ragga from the Night Elf starter zone to the Draenei starter zone. On the way, I picked up skinning, a knife, mining, a pick, I smelted the ore, and learned all the weapons skills I could.

I love the Draenei zones. I find that I level much faster and the rewards are greater. I have a circuit that I run, maximizing my xp per hour. Soon enough the new Ragga dinged 10 and I promptly tamed a level 10 cat for the run to Dun Morogh. Amazingly, I made the journey without a single death!

However, unlike the old Ragga, this new one will not be leveling with a cat. Despite the recent nerf to charge, the new Ragga tamed a boar and named him Bambaataa for uber awesomeness.

As Ragga levels, I will tame other pets to see how they work with the Survival spec. I can read and research all about the best pet for a survival hunter, but I want to know and experience it for myself. On the list of potential pets to tame are a carrion bird, wind serpent, a regular serpent, and maybe a scorpid.

By the way, all the pets I linked to are the models I’ve wanted for other hunters I created for my “matching game.” This time, the only matching I’ll be doing with Ragga is the purple hair to match the purplyness of the Frostsaber cats.

You have no idea how liberating that is for me. I can now freely tame whatever pets I want to try and be happy with the way Ragga looks.

Yep, I really am a dork.New Ragga and Bambaataa

  2. As Track above me has said, enjoy survival.
Once you’ve experienced all the different pet types, be sure to spend some time without one :) Lots of good learning to be had with out your trusty sidekick as well :)
    Good luck!

  3. That sounds like the sort of thing I would do! Have fun lvling as survival! I’ve not tried that spec out much before… I just love the BM tree a little too much >_<

    Welcome to Survival, Mama. :)

  5. …My NE hunter looks exactly like the old Ragga too.

Faeldray’s last blog post..Time for some linkbacks

  6. Trackhoof, what a great suggestion! =D

Lunch, I never thought of trying that. What an amazing way to learn your hunter!

Softi, it’s quite annoying, actually. I’m having some trouble creating a Draenei priest because I can’t decide how I want her to look. I hate being so shallow about how my characters look, but I am. C’est la vie, no? Usually what helps is thinking about the character as a person instead of a cartoon in a game. I shouldn’t have a problem creating her once I sort that out.

    Mirsh, thank you. /bow

Faeldray, I truly hope I did not offend you with my comments about the old Ragga’s look! I have the same problem with Selenyx. There are so many other female Night Elves with the same face - I can’t stand it! But there is no way I’m going to delete her and start all over. No Way.

  7. Checking in to see how Ragga is going~

  8. Funny you ask as I was just playing her last night! She’s level 22 now and there are some observations I’d like to share. Things are a bit busy for me now, so I may not have an update until next week or so.

  9. will be awaiting that post :)
