Every year I take the same two weeks off the kids get for Winter break. Doing so allows me to have the time to do whatever we need for the holidays, visit family, and even do a little bit of nothing.

This past break I bought Final Fantasy X for that little bit of nothing. I rented it (or borrowed from someone, can’t remember which) a couple years back and because it was on borrowed time my goal was to finish the game. This time around I’m taking my time and enjoying it. I now have about 60 hours played and just beat the Seymour that appears on top of Mt. Gagazet.
Although Tidus can be annoying with his immature emo-ness, and I hate that I can’t skip (or haven’t figured out how) through the sappy movie scenes, it’s nice playing a game that has a story to unfold. I miss that aspect of a first person RPG where your character is the star of a mystery. Coming from an open ended world where there are multitudes of stories to be discovered (vs. played), it’s refreshing to play a game with structure and focus.
FFX is my secret lover!

FFX is ok, but I would have recommended FF VII or FF VIII from that series. I’m currently trying to play FF tactics for the psp as my escape from WoW but I also have a few other games I play too.

My son has FF Tactics and keeps telling me I’d probably like it. I probably would!
I keep a list of games that I want to play and FF 7 is on that list. In fact, I think it would be fun to try all the FFs. FFX was the first, and so far only, one I’ve played. We watched the Advent Children movie, which really piqued my interest in the series.
I have never been much of a FF fan, maybe I should give that version a try.

/patiently waits for the inevitable flamewar to erupt over whether VIII was recommendable or not.
X is a very good game, definitely one of my favourites. X-2 is also worth a look after you complete X, if only to wrap up the storylines. It’s a lot lighter, all in all, than X.

Maybe it was X-2 or maybe it was another game all together but I thought you could skip cutscenes by pausing and then hitting X…might be wrong.
I’m cheating on wow right now with FF Tactics A2 for the DS. I love it cause you can fire it up in < 30 seconds from you DS being off or you can simply suspend and un-suspend by closing the lid on the game for 0 sec boots! ….which means I play anywhere at a moments notice. Something I wish I could do more often in wow.
(catching up on my RSS reader…) I’d recommend Neverwinter Nights, especially the first one. It’s an RPG based off the D&D fantasy world (Forgotten Realms I think?) and I think it has THE best role-playing ever. The storylines are very in-depth and the characters are realistic and so much fun to be around. I always find myself getting pulled into the game.
