Blog changes, updates, modifications

I’ve been playing around with the NextGen Gallery plugin for WordPress. It was quite easy to install and get up and running. It seems to integrate really well with the control panel. I can access single photos, for internal links, in Uploads - it creates a Gallery tab for this. I can add a gallery to any page or post with simple code. I’ve done this on Selenyx’s character sheet. The photos are at the end of her page, but you can see it here.

Photos live in galleries which can live in albums. To test this, I created a “Characters” album and inserted the Selenyx and Ragga galleries. The album would display as shown below, lending itself well to setting up a page for an album gallery.

Another cool thing you can do is insert a slideshow as a widget in your sidebar.

I’m really liking it so far.

I recently came across an interesting post about journaling in a blog, The Benefits of Keeping a Private Journal.

Initially, I wanted to use this blog as a means to facilitate change in my life. I wanted to use it to document things that happen and for the ability to track and measure change over time… like, for maybe a year. I wanted more focus in my life and in WoW (I mean, c’mon… after 3 years playing I only have one 70?*) and figured blogging about both would help me with that.

But there are personal things I would not publish online for the world to see, which sorta defeats the purpose of making changes via deep personal introspection.

[your'e thinking]

Blah blah blah… enough of the psychobabble and get on with it already!

[/your'e thinking]

Ok. Well, umm… basically, after reading The Benefits of Keeping a Private Journal, I decided Mama Druid would be exclusively Warcraft oriented, with a smattering of personal posts that relate to WoW, like this one. Not sure how my 80-year old Great Aunt relates to WoW? That’s because I haven’t told you yet! But I will, stay tuned and all will be revealed at some point in the future.

So there you have it.

Now I’m free to document the crazy thoughts in my head in a private place on the blogoshpere. Really, it’s best for all of us.

*sings a little song*
*does a little dance*
*gets down tonight*

Oh yeah!

Sure, maybe not everyone playing since beta/release has more than one 70… but most do. My single 70 just dinged level 70 a few weeks ago. Chalk it up to playstyle or limited time, but technically I could have more than one 70 and there are other classes I want to play.

I’m back at work and on the mend and having recently discovered what descriptions for categories and links actually do, I plan to be sure I add descriptions for everything. It’s pretty awesome how they pop up when you hover over a link.

I likes it.

This nasty cold/flu/whateveritis knocked me on my arse and I’ve been out of commission for six days now.

It sucks.

I hope to come back to life soon…

In the meantime, if you haven’t already, visit Leafshine’s blog. I’m surprised she wasn’t in my blogroll because I love visiting her site. It’s pretty, leafy of course, and fun to read.

Encouraged by a mention in Resto4Life’s Community Spotlight post today, I created a page for my characters. I’ve only managed to put up a brief summary about Mama Druid. I’ll add more about her later, and possibly incorporate a few more of my characters… the ones that I’m actually playing now.

So have a look, the link to the page is right up there at the top. I love how easy it is to add things!

Welcome to Acrobatic’s/Alda’s new home!

The more posts I created at Acrobatic, the more clear and refined my focus for the blog became. Mama Druid better describes the content and purpose of this blog and makes me feel more at home.

Greetings from Mama Druid!

Mama Druid says Hi!

I’ve done did it! I reserved a domain name and installed Wordpress. In conjunction with the move, “Acrobatic/Life is a balancing act” will take on a new identity… one that is more fitting with the direction this blog has taken. All will be revealed when the time is right.

*wink*

Now. All I need is the time to make it so. I’m a bit short on it at the moment, so my excitement and eagerness will bubble inside me until I can unleash them onto my new creation.

I can feel it in mah bones!

It’s interesting how when you have an idea or concept for something it ends up taking a life of its own. That’s what has happened here, and I now have a better idea of what to do with this blog. The technology to communicate in this way is incredible. I know I won’t be able to last long here hosted at Wordpress because I want to explore the technology and to do so at the level I want, I’ll need to host the blog on my own. Not a problem. If I can’t contain myself, I might even reserve the domain name today!

I’ll keep posting and messing around with themes and widgets (and lions and bears, oh my!) while I work out the technical details of hosting the blog on my own.

This blogging stuff is so exciting! There seems to be many different uses for it and I’m really looking forward to learning it and figuring it out.

Now that I’ve got a few posts under my belt, it’s time to start messing around with this place a bit. I’m not too happy with my categories. I can see myself getting confused when I want to review the history of or determine if progress has been made in a certain topic. I’ll refine those a bit.

I think I can add some places to the blogroll, at least the ones I read on a regular basis.

I’m not sure what else I can do. Maybe add some pictures every now and then for flavor. Yeah, I’ll try that.

This blog stuff is pretty fun and it’s been a great way to get rid of those swirly swirlings in my mind. It’s a little too fun in that I’m spending a bit more time on it than I should, while at work. Oops!
