Ok, so I’ve got a new Ragga with a new look. The thing is, I kinda sorta stole the look from my level 13 druid.

MorriDeleting RaggaNew

Yep, I deleted her along with the old Ragga. There’s no need to have identical twins!

Morri, the level 13 druid was on the brink of 150 jewelcrafting. While that’s not much, it sure takes a lot to level the blasted profession. In deleting Morri, I lost a prospector.

The lesson learned here? Stop skilling up professions on low levels! You think I’d know this by now.

  • I know professions are nothing but a time and money sink.
  • I know gathering is a better way to make gold.
  • I know I have a habit of creating and deleting characters!

So why in the world did I waste all those mats on skilling up a profession on a lowbie?

*sigh*

I don’t know.

From here on out, my new rule is that any new characters I create will have skinning and mining. If they make it to 40, I might consider a profession.

I didn’t play much over the weekend as The Daughter and myself took a quick trip south for a visit with my Mom, Dad, Youngest Brother, his Wife, and their Baby.

It was our first trip without the boys and was quite nice. It’s amazing how differently kids behave when you are alone with them.

We arrived home a bit before 7:00 Sunday night and before bed The Hubby and I decided to return to Strat and see how well we fare now that Selenyx and his shadow-stepping rogue are a bit stronger.

We did live side as he’s after some righteous orbs for some righteous twinkage on one of his many twink alts. I think I needed some for my twink resto druid, but I haven’t played her much as I’ve been occupied with many of my many alts.

Anyway, we pretty much barreled through it this time. Our previous attempts were more challenging. I didn’t have the clefthoof set and he wasn’t level 65. I was quite happy to discover that I could dps quite well in kitty form while wearing the clefthoof set.

Boy, do I love being a druid!

We never did get any orbs on our previous attempts, not even from Archivist Galford. After some reading up on it, we concluded that stealthing to him and avoiding all the mobs in the halls between him and the courtyard was probably why he wasn’t dropping one for us.

This time, we came away with 3.

But not without dying in the cannon room.

Overconfidence ftw!

Strat is a great place to farm. We came away with plenty of blues and greens to disenchant, piles of runecloth, and a pristine black diamond. Not to mention that we can sell righteous orbs for 40g a piece on our server. But, for now, the loot goes into the guild bank for future use.

We will definitely be returning.

If any of you missed it, yeah, I know I’m a bit late bringing it up… so if any of you missed Easter in Azeroth, which is easy to do as there isn’t much ingame fanfare about it, the crux of the ingame holiday is Easter egg hunting in the starter zones. The eggs always contain a few copper and candy. But, if you are lucky it might have a piece of the tuxedo outfit or better yet, The Elegant Dress.

The eggs in each starter zone feature their own unique design, but are all the same within the starter zone. This one was by far my most favorite design and was only found in Tirisfal Glades.

Something about the Ragga wasn’t sitting well with me, but I was determined to brush it off and continue to level her in pursuit of my goal to have both a purple Frostsaber pet and mount.

But I couldn’t shake it.

She had long white hair, which was supposed to match nicely with her purple kitties (they have white stripes!). I liked the idea of viewing her long, flowy white hair as her Frostsaber cat ran alongside her or when she was riding on the Frostsaber mount. But guess what? 95% of all other Night Elves, including males, have either white hair or the long, flowy hair style.

It bothered me.

She had the pale blue/purply skin. Again, to best match her future feline companions. But guess what? So did about 50% of all other female Night Elves.

And to top it off, Mama Druid has the same exact coloring… the white hair and blue/purply skin.

*sigh*

Now you know how much of a dork I am.

Thankfully, the right circumstances came up that allowed me to be ok with deleting level 38 Ragga and creating a new one.

  • Playing with our RL friends helped me refocus my “strategy” and I decided to play a character of each class on each faction… except a Warrior - I just can’t play them! I have three druids on Ragga’s server, so this new strategy made it ok for me to delete one as I’d be playing a balance druid on Horde with the RL friends.
  • The desire to level a survival hunter, something I’ve been wanting to do for some time. A recent post by Mirsh put fuel on that fire… the former Ragga was leveling with beastmastery.
  • Other players do it too!

Say goodbye to the old “I look like everyone else” Ragga,

Old Ragga Waving Good Bye Old Ragga Crying

and hello to the new “I don’t look like everyone else” Ragga! Doesn’t she look more hunterly?

New Ragga

Upon creation, and with 5g from a wealthy Aunt and a few stacks of copper ore from her predecessor, I ran the new Ragga from the Night Elf starter zone to the Draenei starter zone. On the way, I picked up skinning, a knife, mining, a pick, I smelted the ore, and learned all the weapons skills I could.

I love the Draenei zones. I find that I level much faster and the rewards are greater. I have a circuit that I run, maximizing my xp per hour. Soon enough the new Ragga dinged 10 and I promptly tamed a level 10 cat for the run to Dun Morogh. Amazingly, I made the journey without a single death!

However, unlike the old Ragga, this new one will not be leveling with a cat. Despite the recent nerf to charge, the new Ragga tamed a boar and named him Bambaataa for uber awesomeness.

As Ragga levels, I will tame other pets to see how they work with the Survival spec. I can read and research all about the best pet for a survival hunter, but I want to know and experience it for myself. On the list of potential pets to tame are a carrion bird, wind serpent, a regular serpent, and maybe a scorpid.

By the way, all the pets I linked to are the models I’ve wanted for other hunters I created for my “matching game.” This time, the only matching I’ll be doing with Ragga is the purple hair to match the purplyness of the Frostsaber cats.

You have no idea how liberating that is for me. I can now freely tame whatever pets I want to try and be happy with the way Ragga looks.

Yep, I really am a dork.New Ragga and Bambaataa

A blogroll update doesn’t take as much time as completing the drafts I’m working on and formatting their accompanying screenshots.

So… following are blogs that I make a point of reading and are now on my blogroll!

Alts Ahoy!
http://altsahoy.blogspot.com

Formerly A Tale of Two Druids, this new blog features stories about being a member of the Pox Arcanum group on her protection pally as well as playing/PvPing a disc/holy priest with her husband’s warrior.

As my ingame interests lean more to the leveling and development of a character, I have found myself reading Alts Ahoy! much more than I ever read A Tale of Two Druids.

Points of Convergence
http://rhoelyn.blogspot.com

While Rhoe plays a fire mage, shadow priest, and feral druid (rawr!), she mostly talks about everything else.

This is a great blog featuring a range of topics from everything to anything. Rhoe discusses nutrition, provides Photoshop tutorials, posts great guides and screenshots, and even has contests!

Too Many Annas
http://toomanyannas.com/blog

Primarily, the adventures of Anna the Resto Shaman as she raids with her guild. Other Annas are featured, some RP, and miscellaneous funny stuff.

I like her blog because it’s a good read - Anna is funny and witty - and it’s interesting to follow along as she’s torn between playing a spec she really loves and seeing endgame content. A dilemma to which many can relate.

And how frustrating it is!

Work is busy and getting busier. Kids are busy and getting busier. What limited spare time I have has been spent playing the game vs. writing about playing the game.

Time is an expensive commodity, both ingame and out.

Big guilds are naturally protected from the wolf seeking n00bs to prey upon by way of the application process and what I’m assuming are, and should be, strict rules about access to the guild bank. The smaller guilds that invite anyone who’ll join and make the guild bank accessible to members based on their rank are susceptible to this predator.

It is to these smaller guilds, the startups of family and friends who’s members are mostly new to the game, and to those who tend to trust a shiny stranger I tell my cautionary tale.

There we were, the four of us, questing our level 13s in Westfall when one of us received a mysterious whisper.

“Can I join your guild? I like to help people.”

Red Flag #1

Upon further inspection, it became apparent how odd a request this really was. The whisperer was a level 70. None of us knew this character. We had never recruited, nor had we spoken to anyone about our guild as its members were just the 4 of us. This 70 must have been /whoing low levels in guilds.

He tried to convince us he merely wanted to help. He boasted of running people through Deadmines and giving them hundreds of gold.

A genuine saint!

I log off my baby Pally and onto Mama Druid to ensure the guild bank is locked down. Upon learning that there was a 70 in the guild, he wasn’t sure we needed his help anymore. Not entirely clear of his intentions, I left it at that and told him to let us know if he changes his mind.

He changed his mind within a few minutes and we had a new member to the guild.

Why is this a red flag? The fact that a level 70 is sitting around /whoing guilded low levels begs one to wonder at their motivation.

Red Flag #2

Checking the guy’s armory shows us that he’s decked out in PvP gear. Checking Warcraft Realms shows us that he’s a transfer and not much else.

Why are these red flags? What the heck is a PvP geared level 70 transfer want with a small guild who can’t do anything for him in the way of progression?

Ok. Maybe he really is a nice guy and wants to help.

Red Flag #3

Immediately after joining, he remarks at his guild rank.

Five minutes later he’s at the guild bank and asking if we have tabs. I know for a fact he can see that we have tabs, but he can’t see the contents.

Maybe now that guild banks have been introduced it’s customary and expected for a new member to check it out right away. But why ask dumb questions?

We don’t have any gold in the bank, he comments on that and deposits 200g. We invited him to our party and he let us know about his deposit in party chat. He then follows up his announcement with, “Oops, I meant to say that in guild chat.” (minor red flag here) I reminded him that it’s just the 4 of us in the guild, so we all heard it in party chat.

Why was that a minor red flag? Because he meant to let the whole guild know about his deposit. In our case, it didn’t apply. But if we were a larger guild, then members who were not in our party would have learned of Mr. Shiny’s helpful gesture and been keenly impressed. What’s wrong with being impressed? Remember wolves in sheep’s clothing may appear to be soft and cuddly, endearing you to them.

I wasn’t ready to be endeared to Mr. Shiny.

Red Flag #4

The next night, he agrees to run us through Deadmines. Again, he asks about bank tabs.

Either he has a bad memory, because his arse was sitting right there at the bank the night before, or The Hubby may be right in suspecting more than one person plays Mr. Shiny.

After the run through, he leaves the party, immediately proceeds to the bank, and sees that we haven’t spent his 200g.

I explain to him that we don’t use the guild bank to store gold as we share it with each other when necessary. I let him know that if he’d like it back, we can certainly give it back to him.

His response:

gquitter

Apparently we weren’t n00bish enough for this guy.

The red flag here? His “bad memory.” Also, I can only suspect that if we had spent his gold it would have been some sort of “in” for him.

Then again, he really could have been the helpful type.

Red Flag #5

About five or ten minutes later I see him in the bank, standing in front of the guild vault and notice he’s in a new guild.

An hour later he’s in another guild.

Why is this a red flag? Seriously?

Guard Your Banks!

Maybe Mr. Shiny Guy was a genuine saint. But my instincts, and the red flags I shared above, tell me otherwise. It’s always best to err on the side of caution (but not to the point where you don’t venture outside!).

So please please please do not trust shiny strangers. Use your guild ranks wisely and whether or not it’s a 70, they should always start out at your lowest rank with access to nothing. Any new member should have a trial period, regardless of their boasts of helpfulness.

As explained a few posts back, a couple we know in RL created characters on our server. I decided to play a protection paladin with their rogue and mage, and The Hubby’s shaman. It’s been a great team and we’ve had a lot of fun with them.

Here we are, taking the boat on our way to meet them in the Human lands.

Shaman and Pally on Boat

They also created characters where we play Horde - two Tauren hunters. This will be my chance to play the balance druid I’ve been longing for! I don’t think The Hubby will be creating a new character this time. He might play one he already has, if we ever reach a comparable level to one of his existing characters.

Their playstyle is exactly like mine… gather all the quests you can, skill up your professions as high as you can - cooking is a must. Needless to say, I’m thrilled!

Mama Druid ran them through Wailing Caverns. They had never been there before and I think they’ve been playing for a few years. Their mains are on a PvP server and they dislike it as much as I did.

They are thinking about transferring and we are encouraging them to! We would then have a team of three 70s and one 65: their balance druid and hunter, my feral druid, and The Hubby’s shadowstepping rogue.

Needless to say, my gameplay direction has taken an interesting twist with this new development. It’s time to put up some new character sheets!
